Dr Mrs. Madhuri Joshi

Dr Madhuri Joshi is a towering figure in the field of engineering. As a teacher, she has brought passion and emotion to a very analytical and 'dry' subject. Engineering, academia, and literature have shaped her intellectually, and she has left her footprints in all three. She is the elder daughter of renowned electrical engineer and Ex. Director of Technical Education, Late Prof. M.V. Deshpande, and prolific writer, Late Mrs. Sudha Deshpande. Sharpness and studiousness, forward thinking, and readiness to take endless efforts have made it possible for her to excel in engineering, which is a male-dominated field. She stepped quickly into her father's shoes and learning from her mother's exemplary life has enabled her to show what it is to be “Better than the Best”. She has been Professor and Dean, R&D, at College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP). She has flown abroad innumerable times to deliver lectures on rather tough topics such as “Image Processing”. She has volunteered at and worked as an office bearer of professional organisations at national and International level, such as the IEEE (USA), IET (UK), IE (I), and IETE (I). Despite her technical writing and achievements, she is a poet at heart and has written two anthologies of poems titled –'Manasvel' and 'Akshar Sopan'. Yet another anthology titled 'Vidyut Kanya' is going to be published today. This anthology is a sketch of her life, of all the tough and happy times, all the enlightening guides she met with, and subsequent ups and downs of her bright and direction-giving journey. It is not only a literary treasure for the generations to come, but also an honest narration of experiences of almost half a century in the field of engineering. It will, without any doubt, prove to be a leading light for the emerging, nascent engineers, students, and writers.
