Breastfeeding is universally acknowledged as the optimal method for providing
the essential nutrients required for the healthy growth and development of
infants.(1) It is not only a source of complete nutrition but also offers significant
immunological protection, reducing the incidence of various infections and
diseases among infants. Human milk contains a unique blend of proteins, fats,
vitamins, and carbohydrates in proportions perfectly suited to the infant's needs,
fostering both physical and cognitive development.(2,3) Despite these welldocumented benefits, breastfeeding is not always feasible for all mothers due to a
range of medical, social, and economic barriers. In such cases, human milk
banking serves as a crucial intervention, ensuring that infants who are unable to
receive direct breastfeeding can still benefit from the nutritional and protective
properties of human milk. Human milk banks (HMBs) play a vital role in
collecting, screening, processing, and distributing donor milk, thus providing a
lifesaving resource for vulnerable neonates, especially those who are premature
or ill.(4, 5)
