Education plays an important role in the economic and social development of the country by creating the human resources. The word education is derived from the Latin words “Edicatio/Educere/ Educare” which means 'to bring out'. The purpose of education is to bring out the best in the human. In Sanskrit, it is called Shiksha or Vidhya. Shah means to discipline and “Vidh” means to know. Discipline and knowledge were very important elements of education in ancient era. Education is a process which helps in increasing knowledge, skills and capabilities of people by peers through teaching, discussion, guidance, training or research. Different Indian scholars define education. Shankaracharya defines education as realization for self where Upanishad says that education is for Liberation. Rigveda defines education as mean to self-reliant and selfless. Rabindra Nath Tagore termed it as a solution of all our problems. So, the ultimate aim of education is mental, social, physical and cultural development of humans.
