South Asian Literature And Culture: Social Inclusion And Exclusion

Authors: Priyanka Chaudhary, Tanuja Yadav,
Format: Paperback | Genre : Society & Social Sciences | Other Book Detail

Introduction At the outset of this chapter, I would like to discuss the meaning of the term, 'South Asia'. It refers to a conglomerate of eight nation states, huddled together in the continent of Asia towards its extreme south. These nation states are India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Bangladesh and Afghanistan. They together comprise the South Asian 'region'. A region is a segmented part of the world which identifies itself by some common features that it displays. In the case of South Asia, it is their physical proximity to each other and a common socio cultural and ethnic similarity that they share and have done so since centuries.
