Brucellosis is an important but neglected disease in India. This zoonotic disease is normally present in all livestock. The demand for dairy products is increasing day by day with changing and intensified farming practices, which probably increased the spread of transmission of this infection to livestock and human population with increased risk of disease. Bovine, Ovine and caprine brucellosis usually caused by Brucella abortus, Brucella ovis and Brucella melitensis, is manifested by reproductive disorders such as abortion, stillborn or weak calves, neonatal mortality, retained placenta, delayed conception and infertility. The present investigation was undertaken to assess the exact scenario of bovine, ovine and caprine brucellosis in Western Rajasthan. Out of 392 samples, a total of 58 (14.80%) sera were found to be positive for brucellosis by RBPT while 78 (19.90%) by ELISA. Species wise overall prevalence was found highest in sheep followed by goat, human, cattle and buffalo in both RBPT and ELISA with statistically non significant difference (p>0.05) whereas, statistically a non significant difference (p>0.05) was also reported among the different districts with highest in Jalore followed by Bikaner, Jodhpur and Nagaur by RBPT when analysed by ELISA highest Seroprevalence was found in Bikaner followed by Jodhpur, Jalore and Nagaur. From all the seropositive samples only 18 samples were found to be positive in PCR assay and they were amplified as Brucella abortus. None of the samples from sheep and goat was found positive for Brucella melitensis and Brucella ovis.
