Plant biotechnology stands at the forefront of modern life sciences, offering transformative solutions to some of the most pressing challenges faced by humanity today—food security, environmental sustainability, climate change, and the conservation of biodiversity. This field integrates classical plant science with cutting-edge molecular biology, genetic engineering, and tissue culture techniques, enabling us to understand, modify, and utilize plants in ways that were once unimaginable. The primary aim of this book is to provide a comprehensive and accessible account of plant biotechnology, suitable for undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, and professionals in the life sciences. It has been designed to bridge the gap between fundamental concepts and advanced applications, presenting topics in a clear, structured, and scientifically rigorous manner. This book covers a wide spectrum of subjects, including plant cell and tissue culture, genetic transformation techniques, molecular markers, genome editing tools such as CRISPR-Cas systems, and their diverse applications in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, and industry. Special emphasis has been placed on the practical applications of plant biotechnology in crop improvement, production of disease-resistant and stress-tolerant varieties, and enhancement of nutritional quality.
