Photosynthesis : Theory and Application

Authors: Dr. Shridevi Ganpatrao Bandgar, Mrs. Shital Sanjay Pawar, Dr. Anjali Pandurang Patil,
Publish Date/ Year : March 2026 | Format: Paperback | Genre : Agriculture | Other Book Detail

This book is structured to bridge theory with application. The early chapters examine the physicochemical basis of light absorption, pigment organization, photosystems I and II, electron transport chains, photophosphorylation, and carbon assimilation pathways in C₃, C₄, and CAM plants. Emphasis is placed on mechanistic clarity, experimental evidence, and conceptual integration. Complex processes are explained with attention to thermodynamics, redox biology, and enzyme kinetics, ensuring that readers develop a rigorous scientific understanding. Subsequent sections move beyond the chloroplast to address ecological and global perspectives. Photosynthesis drives primary productivity, shapes biodiversity, and regulates atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. In the context of climate change and food security, understanding photosynthetic efficiency is no longer merely academic—it is essential. The book explores how environmental stresses such as drought, salinity, temperature extremes, and elevated CO₂ influence photosynthetic performance, and how plants adapt through physiological and molecular strategies.
