Pharmaceutical chemistry deals with structure, chemical nature, composition,
preparation, studies of physical & chemical properties, methods of quality
control and conditions of their users. Medicinal Chemistry is concerned mainly
with organic, analytical & biochemical aspect of drug.Medicinal chemistry is
best to be defined as an interdisciplinary research area incorporating different
branches of chemistry and biology which deals with the discovery and design of
new and better therapeutic chemicals and development of these chemicals
into new medicines and drugs.
The term pharmaceutical is used for any chemicals that find use in the
preparation of medicaments for internal or external administration of human
body. Some are used only in the laboratory during the preparation but may not
be present in the final product. These are also included under pharmaceuticals.
All pharmaceuticals must be carefully controlled for their quality. For this
purpose, specifications of quality are listed for each pharmaceutical. A collection
of such descriptions is found in a pharmacopoeia.
