The pathogenesis of benign and malignant soft tissue tumours is unknown. Majority of soft tissue tumours arise de novo without any etiological factor. Most common etiological agents are genetic and environmental factors, irradiation, viral infections, and immune defficiency.Prediction of exact cause is often difficult, because of latent period between exposure and development of sarcoma. Localized soft tissue tumours can also arise from scar tissue, fracture sites and close to surgical margins. Exposure to chemical carcinogens like phenoxy acetic herbitisites, chlorophenols and their contaminants can lead to increased risk of developing soft tissue tumours
