Novel Graphical Tools Abg Interpretation
Arterial Blood Gas analyser is one of the most important point of care
testing in intensive care unit that plays a vital role in management of
critically ill patients.1-4 The understanding of arterial blood gas (ABG)
analysis and interpretation is a challenging and an arduous task yet timely
management in emergency clinical conditions results in decreasing the
morbidity and mortality of the patients. The accuracy of the blood gas
report depends not only on the correct interpretation and proper clinical
correlation of the given data's but also depends on the knowledge of preanalytical
and analytical errors. The most common problems that are
encountered during the collection of the samples are non-arterial
samples, air bubbles in the sample, inadequate or excessive anticoagulant
in the sample and delayed analysis of a non-cooled sample. Before
making an interpretation of the blood gas analysis, it is better to check the
consistency of the report by the Modified Henderson Equation.
