The term "stroke" is associated with the Greek word "apoplexia," which describes being dealt with a fatal blow. However, it would be inappropriate to make a direct comparison between the present definition of stroke and what used to be referred to as apoplexy. 'Sudden elimination of all processes of the brain with the presence of the pulse and breathing' was the definition of apoplexy, a general term used to describe a disorder (1).
