Dr.Prasannajeet Pramod Nikam is currently working as an Associate Professor in Department of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy of Bharati Vidyapeeth “Deemed to be” University, School of Physiotherapy, Sangli.

Popularly known as the “PATENT KING OF PHYSIOTHERAPY” he has filed a whooping 40 patents (including one in the United States and one in South Africa) out of which 20 have been granted. This is the highest number of patents filed by a physiotherapist in the entire world. All of these patented technologies are conceptualized with the primary aim of improving the quality of life of the people with various disabilities. Known for his research and innovation, he has been designing and producing grass- root innovative devices and modalities which have helped to improve the quality of life, especially for the people with disability. Some of his innovative devices include Anti-fall walking device for population with various disabilities which helps to prevent fall by reducing the impact of fall. It is fitted with advanced security measures like SOS alarm, GPS camera tracker to aid disabled people and to ensure their safety. His other patented innovative technologies include core-trainer device (to improve the gait parameters of people with disability after prosthetic fitting), Dynamic Balance trainer (to improve gait after prosthetic fitting), Hand grip trainer (to train bionic arm or normal prosthetic arm) etc. His other innovation includes a device which can be kept as an insole inside the shoes of people having disability of legs. This device helps in monitoring the weight distribution while walking. Abnormal weight bearing can be identified and corrected accordingly thus improving the gait of people with fitted prosthesis. This ultimately helps to reduce the chances of re-injury due to improper walking biomechanics. This has led to bridge the gap of unavailability of special rehabilitative devices and modalities for the people with disability.

In order to promote inter-disciplinary research and collaborative support, he has been taking seminars and awareness drives in various engineering, medical as well as polytechnic colleges. Apart from being an excellent innovator, he is an active researcher with more than 15 scientific publications. He has authored 4 books. Through this books, he aims to train the young minds about taking research and innovation as a first choice career. He has more than 50 copyrights on his name.

He has also made an educational short film by collaborating with UG students titled “A DAY WITH PHYSIOTHERAPIST” with the aim of spreading awareness about this field.

He is actively involved in various Faculty Development Programs. He has recently cleared Basic Course in Biomedical Research by ICMR on SWAYAM platform in first attempt with 72 %. For professional upgradation, he is currently pursuing Introductory course on Sports Psychology which is an AICTE approved FDP course by NPTEL. He has also done E-content Workshop titled Learning Design of Four Quadrants (Level 1 & 2).

He is the youngest recipient of IAP NATIONAL AWARD conferred by THE INDIAN ASSOCIATION OF PHYSIOTHERAPISTS in the field of Physiotherapy. He has also received “Innovative Researcher of the Year Award” (Tiruchirapalli, Tamilnadu) by Research Under Literal Access (RULA) (2018), “Top 50 International Distinguished Young Researcher Award” by Green Thinkerz (2020) and “DR.SARVEPALLI RADHAKRISHNAN DISTINGUISHED RESEARCHER AWARD 2023” by CENTRE FOR PROFESSIONAL ADVANCEMENT CONTINOUS EDUCATION (CPACE).

He has balanced being an active Sports Physiotherapist as well while being involved in Academics, Research & Innovation. He heads the team of physiotherapist students as an official recovery team for many marathons, badminton tournaments and other regional, state level as well as national level sports events. His aim is to mainstream research and innovation based pedagogy and make it an integral part of the current physiotherapy curriculum.
