It belongs to the family Solanaceae and it is grown across the world for its edible tubers. Originally it is an important temperate crop, but well adopted in sub-tropical conditions. It is one of the major vegetable grown in the plains during winters and in hills during summer. The probable centre of origin of potato is in South America located in the central Andean region. Potato was introduced, by the Portuguese to India from the Europe in the beginning of the seventeenth century.

Dr.Richa Pyasi was born on 27th February 1988 at Jabalpur (M.P). She passed her higher secondary examination in the year 2007 from st. Xaviers (ICSE Board, Mumbai) with 7.2 OGPA on 10 point scale. She joined college of Agriculture JNKVV Jabalpur in 2007 and completed B.Sc (Ag) in the year 2011. After graduation, she joined M.Sc (Ag) Vegetable Science in college of Agriculture, Jabalpur (M.P). Qualified ICAR-NETexam. She was awarded with Doctorate degree from RVSKVV, Gwalior. She is coa u t h e r o f o n e b o o k a t t e n d e d m a n y i n t e r n a t i o n a l seminars/symposiums and published more than 10 research papers and popular articles in various reputed Naas rated journals and magzines. At present the auther is working as (Asst.Professor) in Deptt.of Horticulture, College of Agriculture, RVSKVV, Gwalior.
