Ageing is a normal universal, progressive and deleterious phenomenon of life. Those who are young today they will become old tomorrow. Nobody can beat this process of life cycle. There was an era when elder people were considered the fulcrum of family and all the members grow up surrounding them. They were considered the binding block of the society. Because of globalization as the cohesiveness of the family is reducing similarly position of the elderly in the family is also under massive stress. But it doesn't means that roads are all blocked for them those once upon a time considered the real asset of the society. World in twenty first century has been facing many transitions: epidemiological transition, nutritional transition, demographic transition etc. World health Organization (WHO) had coined the theme of active aging on the eve of World health day in 2012. Elderly should not be consider as a burden on society rather active aging will make them economically, socially as well as culturally health and productive. Many terms as been cited by different researcher for aging people: “old age”, “elderly”, “senior citizen”, “old adult” etc.1 In 1938, the term “senior citizen” was first invented by Isaac Hirschfeld in a political campaign.2 Science then many countries has globally defined different age group for senior citizen.

Dr Sourabh Paul, MBBS, MD Community Medicine had graduated from Regional Institute of Medical Science, Imphal Manipur and he had his Post graduation also from RIMS, Imphal, Manipur. He had his senior residency from AIIMS, Bhubaneswar and presently working as Assistant professor, Community Medicine at AIIMS, Raeibareli, Uttarpradesh. In his 10 year career in the profession he had more than 25 publications in different national and international Journals. He had been a part of different training programme, projects and also a member of geriatric society of India.

Dr K C Verma, MBBS, MD Col (Retd.) Dr K C Verma, graduated from JLN Medical College, Ajmer (Rajasthan) and did his MD (Community Medicine) f rom Armed Forces Medical Ser vices(AFMC),Pun e (Maharashtra).He has held various administrative and community medicine specialist appointments in various parts of the country while serving in Armed Forces Medical Service. He has also been Professor in Department of Community Medicine in AFMC during year 2009 to 2011.He has several publications in National & International Journals to his credit. At present, he is working as Professor in Department of Community Medicine, Jaipur National University Institute of Medical Science and Research Centre, Jaipur (Rajasthan).
