Experimental Pharmacology
Pharmacology is the branch of medical sciences which deals with the
study of drugs. It is derived from the greek word “Pharmacon” means drug
and “Logos” means study. It deals with the detailed study of interactions of
exogenously administered chemicals substances /molecules/drugs with
receptors/enzymes/transporters/ion channels/other proteins of the living
system.
Pharmacology have two divisions they are pharmacokinetics and
pharmacodynamics. Pharmacokinetics is the study of drugs kinetics
including absorption ,distribution ,protein binding, metabolism and
excretion of drugs in the living system. Pharmacodynamics is the study of
physiological and biochemical effects of drugs and their mechanism of
action of drugs at macromolecular and molecular levels in the living
system. It also includes the study of drug effects in microorganism and
parasites.
