The term "surgical site infection" (SSI), according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), refers to an infection in a wound that happens in 30 days or less following surgical procedure or one year if an implant is kept in situ and the infection is believed to be connected with the procedure.1 Most typical infections in healthcare happens after 1-3 percent of all surgical procedures. Comparing abdominal surgery to other forms of surgery, abdominal surgery has much higher rates of surgical site infections (SSI), with several prospective studies reporting a frequency between 15 and 25 percent, depending on the extent of contamination

Dr. P.N.Sreeramulu (MBBS, MS, FMAS), a renowned surgeon, academician, researcher and administrator .He is an alumnus of JSS MEDICAL COLLEGE, MYSURU. He started his career as a lecturer in Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College and progressed over the years as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor. He is currently serving as Professor, Department of General Surgery and Director of Super Speciality Studies, Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research, Kolar. He worked as former Principal and Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research , Kolar, Former Head of Department, Department of General Surgery, Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research, Kolar and Former Medical Superintendent, RLJH & RC, Kolar. His immense dedication towards the SDUAHER and his administrative skills as Unit chief and HOD, Medical Superintendent, Vice Principal, Principal and Dean , helped him improve medical education and patient care. He has a special interest in minimal access surgery. His academic talents gained him popularity among UG and PG students over his vast three decades of teaching experience.
