Statistics involves collection, analysis and processing of data which helps managers in day-to-day decision making. It consists of variety of tools and techniques which help us to present the data and then analyse it to reach at useful conclusions. There are descriptive analysis tools comprising of diagrammatic representation of data, measures of central tendency and measures of variation. They help us to explain the profile of the data. Probability is used in case of random variables and probability distributions like Binomial and, Poisson distribution are used for discrete variables. Normal distribution is used in case of continuous variables.

Dr. Sandeep Bhanot is a Professor at Lala Lajpat Rai Institute of Management , Mumbai. He is an electronics engineer from Bombay University and a management graduate from Mumbai University. He has done his Ph.D in Management from Mumbai University on the topic of ‘purchase behaviour of luxury brands’. He has 28 years teaching experience in various subjects like Business Statistics, Operations Research, Decision Science, Research Methodology and Quantitative Models. He has written over 50 research papers in various national and international journals and has also presented over 25 research papers at various national and international conferences. He is also an author of four books. He is also a registered Ph.D. Guide of Mumbai University.
