The description of Prameha or Madhumeha is found since the vaidik or prehistoric time. Its relationship with doshas and dushyas finds mention in the arsha granthas. But the relationship of prameha or madhumeha for that matter is elucidated in elaberate details in the vrihattrayee, the three major taxts of Ayurveda, viz., Samhitas of Charaka, Sushruta and Vagbhata. A disease similar to madhumeha is described in the modern western medicine by the term diabetes mellitus. Separate entity of this disease, diabetes mellitus was established during a period spanning 30 AD to 90 AD by a Roman physician named Aretaeus of Cappadocia. In fact, the literal meaning of the term diabetes is “to pass through” which may be attributed to the weakness of kidneys.

Apart from this Prof Nanda has obtained the highest post doctoral D.Sc in diabetes, He has served 37 years as a Scientist & Researcher under Govt of India, Ayush ministry being senior Scientist & Head of different- Research Institutes of India like Bhubaneswar (odisha), Patna (Bihar), Gauhati (Assam), Gangtok (Sikkim), Lucknow (U.P) and chennai (Tamil Nadu). In addition to this he was Visiting Professor in Gauhati University, and Professor Head cum Director R&D, PAMCH lucknow. He has guided several Ph.D scholars being Research Guide of Utkal University (odisha), University of Science & Technology Mizoram, Health university Gouhati etc. along with visiting faculty to Tirupati Sanskrit University. He had also the opportunity to be posted as OSD cum personal physician to HE Governor of Assam.
