Prof. (Dr.) Nitin M. Labhane

Prof. (Dr.) Nitin M. Labhane is a Professor and Head of the Department of Botany at Bhavan’s College, Andheri (West), Mumbai, where he has served for 25 years. An expert in embryology, he works across plant physiology, development, phytochemistry, systematics, urban landscape studies, evolution, and biodiversity. He has 25 years of UG teaching experience and 20 years at the PG level. He earned his PhD in Botany in 2011 from RTM Nagpur University under the UGC Faculty Development Programme. He is among the few in India to have qualified NET, SET, GATE, GRE, TOEFL, and completed a PhD and a Postdoctoral Fellowship. His postdoctoral work (2016) was completed at the Biological Research Centre, Szeged, Hungary, in the Arabidopsis Molecular Genetics Lab under Dr. László Szabados. He also completed an international fellowship (2022) at the same centre. Prof. Labhane has published around 50 national and international research papers and book chapters. His awards include the Dr. C.V. Raman Distinguished Scientist Award (2023) and the Best Academician Award (2024) at an international ceremony in Bangkok. He has organized national seminars (2015–16, 2024–25) and convened an international symposium in December 2023. He has been appointed twice by the Government of India as an Expert Member of the State Environmental Appraisal Committee (SEAC), Maharashtra—first for 2021–2024, and again for 2024–2027

Mr. Alok L. Gude

Mr. Alok L. Gude

Mr. Alok L. Gude is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Botany at St. Xavier’s College (Empowered Autonomous Institute), Mumbai 400001, with over 20 years of teaching experience. He holds an MSc in Botany from Nagpur University and qualified the CSIR-UGC NET in Life Sciences. His academic career spans roles at Hislop College, Nagpur and Wilson College, Mumbai and he has contributed to curriculum development as a Vice-Chancellor’s nominee on the Board of Studies at Bhavan’s College, Mumbai and Bajaj College of Science, Wardha. He has also served as an external examiner and paper setter for BSc and MSc Botany programs under the University of Mumbai. He has authored multiple research papers and book chapters on topics ranging from mangrove biodiversity and heavy metal contamination to the medicinal properties of native plants. His editorial contributions include chapters in government-published manuals and co-authorship of the book Bharat Ke Mahan Vaigyanik (2024), published by Maharashtra Rajya Hindi Sahityik Akadamy, reflects his dedication to promoting science through literature. In addition to his institutional responsibilities, he has extended his expertise beyond his own college, voluntarily conducting molecular biology and plant physiology experiments for postgraduate Botany students at Dr. AR Undre Women’s College of Science, Borli Panchatan, Raigad.

Dr Gopa Sarma

Dr Gopa Sarma

Dr Gopa Sarma is a Professor and Head of the Department in the Botany Department, Guru Nanak Khalsa College of Arts Science and Commerce. She acquired her Doctoral degree in Molecular Biology from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Meghalaya in the year 1999. Her significant contributions in the field of Molecular Biology includes Novel Techniques for Isolation of Frankia. Her postdoctoral research in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai was based on Microsatellites. Dr Sarma has published her research in various national and international Journals. She has been awarded several Research Projects and also worked for different funding agencies like IFCPAR, Germany,DST, CSIR, UGC. She is reviewer of few international and national journals, few of them are , Journal of the Saudi Society of Agricultural Sciences,The journal of plant sciences research, Trends in Sciences, Current journal of applied science and technology.. professor Sarma has vast knowledge in molecular biology and medicinal plants.

Dr. Kalpit Ganesh Mhatre

Dr. Kalpit Ganesh Mhatre

Dr. Kalpit Ganesh Mhatre is currently working as an assistant professor in botany at New Education Society's Shriram Kusumtai Sadashiv Vanjare College, Lanja District Ratnagiri, Maharashtra State. He has total teaching experience of 10 years at UG level. He has completed his Ph.D. from St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Mumbai. He is the author of two books and editor of 15 books. To his credit he has 19 research papers in UGC CARE list and has written 53 chapters in various books. He also has 03 patent publication to his credit. He has vast experience in the field of Plant Taxonomy, Ethnobotany, Molecular Systematics, Ecology and Anthropology. Apart from academic work, he has been engaged in administrative work also. At institute level, he is being working as a Nodal Officer for various schemes such as Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE), National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Kalam Program for IP Literacy and Awareness (KAPILA) and Atal Ranking of Institution on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA). Dr. Mhatre is a President of Institutional Innovation Council (IIC). He has been designated as a District Sustainability Mentor (DSM) for Ratnagiri District by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, Hyderabad.
