This book places human-centred Design Thinking at the heart of Building Technology education for Indian students. Design Thinking — the five-stage iterative methodology, provides a structured creative process for discovering what buildings truly need to do for their occupants, before specifying how they should be built. For Building Technology students, this means learning to observe how a family actually lives in a Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) housing unit before specifying its wall thickness; to understand why an aged resident avoids the community toilet block at night before redesigning its lighting; and to empathise with the construction labourer who will lay the very bricks you specify.
