The book stress and struggle, in the second edition comes with expansion of stress terrain while retaining the basic aspects published in the first edition. We have retained all the thirty-six chapters from first edition and sixteen new chapters on range of areas are added to the second edition. Many of the chapters from the first edition have been updated to include current research and trends. Consequently, the number of chapters increased from 36 to 53 and number of experts and academicians contributed to the book has increased from 69 to 106. We are indebted to the enthusiastic response and cooperation from the authors for their time and effort to pen complex ideas/concepts into easily readable chapters.

Bettahalasoor S Somashekar

Dr Bettahalasoor S Somashekar has graduated (MBBS) from Government Medical college, (current ly known as Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences -VIMS), Bellari, India. He later spent nearly 10 years in ‘National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences’ (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, India, where he obtained MD (Psychiatry), Diploma in Psychiatry and Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in psychiatry and worked in community psychiatry. He has obtained Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics (PGDMLE) from National Law School of India University, Bengaluru India. He is cur rently working as consultant psychiatrist for over 20 years at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, Coventry UK. He has authored many scientific publications in national and international journals and written several chapters for books. His special interests include phenomenology, psychopharmacology, stress and mental illness, community psychiatry and legal and ethical aspects of medicine. He has keen interest in teach ing, training, and doctors’ health.

Narayana Manjunatha

Narayana Manjunatha

Dr Narayana Manjunatha, is currently working as an ‘Additional Professor of Psychiatry’ at the ‘Na tional Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences’ (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, India. He completed his undergraduate medical course (MBBS) from Bangalore Medical College, Bengaluru, Bharat (In dia), and the psychiatry residencies from NIMHANS, Bengaluru, and ‘Central Institute of Psychiatry,’ Ranchi, India. He has worked in the positions of residency, research, and a faculty position at various prestigious medical educational institutions of India like All India Institute of Medical Sciences- New Delhi, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences- Lucknow, etc. His areas of interest and research cover anxiety disorders, primary care psychiatry, tele-medicine, health economics and policy. He has a couple of innovations in his credit such as delusional procreation syndrome), proxy vs. self-referential delusions, on-consultation training, translational quotient, primary care psychiatry quotient, functional treatment gap, clinical schedules for primary care psychiatry, diploma in primary care psychiatry, Acharya training method, virtual (inspection) physical examination, etc. He has published more than 300 scientific publications in various national and international journals and more than 25 chapters in various books. He has more than 50 funded projects in his credit. He is also recipient of prestigious Marfatia Award, Professor Raguram distinguished young teacher award, etc.

Dr Santosh K Chaturvedi, MD, FRCPsych, Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist, Jagadguru Kripalu Chikitsalaya, Vrindavan, Barsana & Mangarh, & Former Dean of Behavioural Sciences, Senior Profes sor, and Former Head of Departments of Psychiatry, Mental Health Education, and Psychiatric Reha bilitation services at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bangalore, India. His area of work and interest has been on Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Psycho Oncology and Palliative Care. He has edited more than 20 books and is currently, one of the Editors-in-Chief of the Journal of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Mental Health published by Springers Nature.

Dr. Bhavika Vajawat is a Speciality Registrar in General Adult Psychiatry at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, London, United Kingdom. She emerged as a gold medalist and best outgoing student during her Postgraduate training at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neu rosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, India. Her areas of interest include Cultural Psychiatry, women’s mental health, the impact of trauma on mental health, and forensic psychiatry.

Mohamed Yaasir Mohamudbucus

Mohamed Yaasir Mohamudbucus

Dr Mohamed Yaasir Mohamudbucus is currently practicing as a General Adult Psychiatry Registrar in the West Midlands region of the United Kingdom. He has worked in several National Health Service Trusts in the United Kingdom. He is one year away from acquiring specialist registration in General Adult Psychiatry and Rehabilitation Psychiatry. He has completed his primary medical degree at the University of Birmingham (UK). He has been a facilitator for Balint group for both medical students and resident doctors. He is an examiner for two medical schools. He is also on the interview panel for Birmingham Medical School. He is currently involved in a national research project which is looking at a peer support programme for carers looking after service users detained under the Mental Health Act. He has an interest in research and medical education.

Dr Prateek Varshney is a Speciality Registrar in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, London, United Kingdom. He has a keen interest in academic psy chiatry. His research is currently focussed on cultural connotations of self-harm. Outside of medicine, he is interested in poetry, art, and calligraphy.
