The main objective of root canal therapy is thorough shaping and cleaning of
all pulp spaces and its complete obturation with an inert filling material 2. The
importance of a thorough cleaning and hermetic filling of the apical part of the
canal for successful healing of the periapex was highlighted in the “mountain
pass theory” by kronfeld in 1939. The root canal begins as a funnel-shaped
canal orifice, generally at or just apical to the cervical line, and ends at the apical
foramen, which opens onto the root surface at or within 3 mm of the center of
the root apex
