Pharmacy is the branch of pharmacology that deals with identification, selection, preservation, combining, analyzing, standardization, preparing, compounding and dispensing of medicines for administration to the patient. A pharmacist prepares compounds and dispenses medicines to the patient upon a written order of a licensed medical practitioner In antiquity, the pharmacy and practice of medicine were often combined, physician often both prepared and prescribed medicines not until well into the nineteenth century was the distinction between the pharmacist as a compounder of medicines and the physician as a therapist generally accepted now. In most of the developed countries the system clearly defines the role of physician prescribing and the pharmacist dispensing, while in developing countries the functions are overlapping mostly in rural areas. Clinical pharmacy: is the branch of pharmacy in which pharmacists provide patient care that optimizes the use of medication and promotes health, wellness and disease prevention.

R. Ahmad, possesses a distinguished academic carrier. After completing graduation and post-graduation diploma in child health, he obtained post-graduate degree in pharmacology in 2001 from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, and worked there as assistant professor till 2008, currently he is working as professor of pharmacology at HIMSR, Jamia Hamdard New Delhi. In the past author had an opportunity to work in problem based learning system for five years at KSA, where he worked with the experts from Queen's university Canada Ontario, and Maastricht University, Netherland.
