This book, Plant Evolution, has been written with the aim of providing a comprehensive, clear, and up-to-date account of how plants originated, diversified, and adapted through geological time. It integrates classical botanical knowledge with recent advances in molecular biology, genomics, paleobotany, and bioinformatics. By combining fossil evidence with modern genetic insights, the book reconstructs the major evolutionary milestones that have shaped the plant kingdom. The text begins with the origin of life and the emergence of photosynthetic organisms, followed by the transition of plants from aquatic to terrestrial habitats—one of the most significant events in Earth’s history. It explores the evolution of key structural and reproductive innovations such as vascular tissues, seeds, and flowers, which enabled plants to colonize diverse environments. Special emphasis is placed on adaptive strategies, evolutionary mechanisms, and ecological interactions that have driven plant diversification.
