Alprazolam is a benzodiazepine drug commonly used for the treatment of
anxiety disorders, panic disorders, and anxiety associated with depression. It acts on the
central nervous system (CNS) by enhancing the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA),
an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, thereby producing a calming effect. Alprazolam
helps reduce nervousness, tension, fear, and excessive anxiety. Due to its rapid onset of action,
it is widely prescribed for acute anxiety and panic attacks. However, prolonged use may
lead to dependence and withdrawal symptoms; therefore, it should be used under medical
supervision
