Dr. Mohit Sharma
Dr. Mohit Sharma is an eminent Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon serving as Associate Professor
in the Department of CTVS at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College and Hospital, Jaipur, Rajasthan — one of India's premier
government medical institutions. With over two decades of distinguished medical experience
spanning MBBS, MS (General Surgery), and MCh (CTVS), he has emerged as a pioneering figure in
the field of minimally invasive and complex cardiac surgery.
A key member of the surgical team responsible for the first Government-sector Heart Transplant in
Rajasthan, Dr. Sharma leads a world-class programme in right mini-thoracotomy with central
cannulation — a technique his institution has refined over more than a decade, now representing one
of the world's largest series in minimally invasive valvular heart surgery. His surgical expertise
encompasses the full spectrum of cardiac, thoracic, and vascular procedures, including valve
replacement, ASD/VSD repair, CABG, thoracofemoral bypass, aortic surgery, and complex congenital
heart disease correction.
Dr. Sharma's academic journey has been marked by institutional leadership. An alumnus of SP
Medical College, Bikaner (MBBS, 2003; MS General Surgery, 2012) and of SMS Medical College,
Jaipur (MCh CTVS, 2015), he additionally holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Hospital and Health
Management (PGDHHM) from Symbiosis University, Pune. He served as Founding Head of the
Department of CTVS at J.L.N. Medical College, Ajmer, and subsequently as Head of the Department
of CTVS at Government Medical College, Kota — establishing and nurturing cardiac surgical services
for the people of Rajasthan at each posting. He has also contributed to private-sector paediatric
cardiac surgery as Associate Consultant at Fortis Healthcare, Jaipur. He is an active member of the
Indian Society of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeons, the Indian Association of Coronary Surgeons,
the Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery Society, and the Indian Association of Yoga.
An accomplished academician and prolific researcher, Dr. Sharma has authored over 51 peer-
reviewed publications comprising original articles, case reports, and conference abstracts in national
and international journals — including Perfusion, AORTA, Indian Journal of Thoracic and
Cardiovascular Surgery, Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Heart Views. He has participated in
international clinical trials on novel prosthetic heart valves (Foldax Aortic and Mitral programmes) and
serves as a reviewer for leading medical journals including the Indian Heart Journal and Journal of
Family Medicine and Primary Care.
Dr. Sharma has been recognised among the Top 10 Most Promising Cardiologists in India (Silicon
India Magazine, 2023), recipient of the Research & Excellence Award (REAA-2018), and honoured by
the IMA with the Best Doctor Working for Social Cause (State Level). He has presented his research at international conferences in the United States, China, and across India, with invitations to present landmark case reports at Los Angeles and Shanghai.
Beyond the operating theatre, Dr. Sharma is a certified Faculty of the Art of Living Foundation,
teaching mindfulness, meditation, and yoga programmes — a rare synthesis of surgical precision and
inner well-being. He is also an active medical educator on YouTube (@DrMohitSharma), dedicated to
democratising CTVS knowledge for students, residents, and practitioners. This book is a distillation of
his extensive clinical experience, academic rigour, and teaching philosophy — crafted to serve as an
indispensable companion for anyone navigating the demanding world of cardiothoracic and vascular
surgery.
