The modern manufacturing method is defined as a special machining process
that removes the excess materials by the use of different advanced methods
which involve chemical, electrical, thermal or mechanical energy. In such
processes the conventional sharp cutting tools are not used as it is used for
traditional manufacturing processes. Initially, unconventional methods of
machining were developed to machine the very hard engineering materials
that are practically impossible to machine while using traditional techniques.
In order to initiate the material removal process, the conventional machining
process makes use of the cutting tool’s capacity to stress the material above
the yield point. To do this, the cutting tool materials must be harder than the
work piece. The degree of surface finish and accuracy is also found to be not
appropriate in conventional machining.
