The philosophy of research is the backbone of academic inquiry because it helps researchers understand not only how to investigate but also why their chosen approach is appropriate. Philosophy provides the lens through which reality is viewed and knowledge is interpreted. Every study, whether in the natural sciences, social sciences, or applied disciplines, is influenced by certain philosophical assumptions that often remain unspoken but fundamentally guide the process. Two of the most important aspects of research philosophy are ontology, which concerns the nature of reality, and epistemology, which concerns the nature of knowledge. Together, these concepts provide a framework for making research coherent, logically sound, and contextually relevant.
