Dr. Sanghamitra Pati

Dr. Sanghamitra Pati is a distinguished physician-scientist, laboratory expert, and public health researcher with over 25 years of experience in advancing health research and policy in India and globally. She completed her MBBS (1992) and MD (1998) from MKCG Medical College, Berhampur, Odisha, and was awarded the prestigious Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship in 2000 to pursue her MPH at Maastricht University, The Netherlands. She further obtained her PhD from the same university in 2023. She is a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), the Royal Society of Public Health (UK), and the Union for International Cancer Control. Recognized among India’s most influential researchers, she was ranked by Elsevier in 2021 as the 2nd most influential Indian researcher in General and Internal Medicine and has consistently been listed among the top 2% of global scientists by Stanford University. A Distinguished Lown Scholar at the Harvard School of Public Health, she has authored over 400 peer-reviewed publications, with an h-index of 49, and contributes as a reviewer and editor to leading journals including The Lancet, PLOS ONE, and BMJ Open. Her pioneering Wellcome Trust-funded research represents the first comprehensive assessment of multimorbidity in India and other low- and middle-income countries. She developed the widely used Multimorbidity Assessment Questionnaire for Primary Care (MAQ-PC), and her work spans epidemiology, health systems, and patient-reported outcomes. She has led large-scale data analyses, systematic reviews, and capacity-building initiatives, including training curricula for community health workers. Notably, she led a transcontinental MRC (UK)-funded collaboration between India, Brazil, and the UK to establish a community of practice on multimorbidity in the Global South. Dr. Pati has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Samanta Chandrasekhara Award, Devi Award, IMA President’s Appreciation Award, Times Power Women Award, and the Chief Minister’s Award for Excellence in Healthcare Services (Odisha). Her work continues to shape policies and practices addressing complex chronic conditions and improving health outcomes, particularly among vulnerable populations.
